  The Federal Administration Training Centre (FATC) offers a wide range of practical courses, including:

  • methodological skills
  • personal and social skills
  • courses on IT applications
  • language courses (classroom-based and online)
  • specialised further training for managers, HR experts and apprentice trainers

  The range of training courses is supplemented with a digital teaching library offering self-learning opportunities. In addition, the administrative units contribute to the costs of training and continuing professional development courses provided by third parties as required.

  We take account of both the qualification requirements and employees' professional and life experience that is relevant to the position. Depending on an employee's individual circumstances, the basic salary is supplemented with benefits such as family allowance or enhanced rates of pay for night and Sunday work.

  Mobile working

  Many Federal Administration tasks can be performed at home, in co-working spaces or while on the move. We support and promote mobile working wherever possible.

  Flexible working time models

  With the annual hours model, working time is recorded daily, and needs to balance out at the end of the year. With the trust-based working time model, working time is not recorded.

  Part-time working

  In principle, all full-time positions are advertised at between 80% and 100%. In the event of the birth or adoption of a child, employees can choose to reduce their work-time percentage by up to 20%, and then increase it again later.

Working hours, holiday, leave

You will have at least 25 days' holiday, sometimes more depending on your age.

  Your working week is 41.5 hours for a full-time position. Most positions allow for part-time work.

  Holiday allowance

  • Up to age 20: 6 weeks
  • Age 21-49: 5 weeks
  • Age 50-59: 6 weeks
  • Age 60 and over: 7 weeks
  • Apprentices: 7 weeks

  Paid leave

  • Maternity: 4 months
  • Paternity: 20 days
  • Adoption: 2 months

  Unpaid leave

  Can be granted in consultation with the line manager and where operationally possible.

  Federal Administration employees are insured in the federal pension plan of the PUBLICA pension fund – right from the first Swiss franc of salary that is subject to AHV and insurance (no lower threshold).

  In the event of a salary decrease after the age of 58 – for example if the employee reduces their work-time percentage – pension coverage can be continued unchanged.

  Part-time employees receive better conditions, because the coordination deduction takes the work-time percentage into consideration.

  The employer assumes at least 50% of the savings contributions. Employees can also improve their personal pension coverage through voluntary savings contributions.
